We have all come across the famous proverb “There is nothing permanent except change”. Today, technology is advancing so rapidly making it difficult for organizations and individuals alike to keep abreast with the changes.

While everyone is talking about the new digital world, what is it that actually defines this term? Additional questions arise such as:

  • What are the technologies involved in the digital transformation space?
  • How can digital technologies be beneficial to organizations?
  • What is the difference between digital technology and disruptive technology?
  • How and where does one start to learn about digital technologies?
  • What are the consequences of not adapting to the digital era?

We are now living in the digital era and are left with no option but to change, both in our personal lives and in our professional careers. The consequences of not changing with the times can be best understood by the fate of the once well-known organizations of yesteryears such as Eastman Kodak, Polaroid, Blockbuster Video, Borders, and others. These companies have had to close shop or file for bankruptcy because they failed to keep up with or capitalize on the changing technology trends.

Photography

Kodak, one of the most powerful companies in the world during its time, was so blinded by its success that it completely missed the advent of digital technologies. Ironically, this company had designed the very first prototype of the digital camera way back in 1970, yet failed to invest in its invention. A sad end to the “Kodak Moment!”. However, Fujifilm, another film company, acted swiftly and changed its business through innovation and external growth. Fujifilm’s success was in diversification and this helped not only overcome a crisis but also thrive in a challenging environment.

Video rental

Blockbuster Video, a chain of video rental stores across the US required members to commute to their nearest store to rent videos. It did not envision the benefits of going digital unlike NetFlix, and as a result, had to opt-out of the race. NetFlix, its competitor, on the other hand, seized the opportunity of utilizing cloud services and providing rental services online Today Netflix is one of the successful organizations in the world to have embraced the digital world.

Cloud Technology

The CCC’s Cloud Technology Associate (CTA) course focuses on Cloud Computing – considered to be the fulcrum of a variety of digital technologies, but also briefly touches upon several digital transformation-based technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), etc. The CTA course along with other CCC’s courses such as CTA+, IoT Foundation, Blockchain Foundation, and Big Data Foundation can serve as a starting point for any learner interested in understanding the concepts and terminologies associated with digital technologies. These courses cover the fundamental principles and concepts, appropriate case studies, suitable examples as well as the advantage of obtaining a certification from the well-known CCC organization.

Today, with AI and ML leading the digital transformation space, IT professionals can jump-start their career, by exploring the digital world. Skills that are picked up now can go a long way in one’s career as AI, and ML are all set to dominate practically every sphere of life in the coming years.
