Cloud computing provides a new business paradigm for resources.

It enables organizations to create and use IT, and business services on-demand from optimal sources to maximize utilization and cost-effectiveness. The following figure suggests that SaaS is about the business process being outsourced. This can be between enterprises or within a single enterprise. PaaS applications and IaaS solutions are typically developed and provisioned within an organization.

Workload Assessment/Application Selection

From the current IT environment in an organization, identify the suitable and less suitable types of applications as shown in the following examples.

If one or more applications fall under the “Suitable Applications” category, then it can be beneficial to adopt cloud computing. For applications that fall under the “Less Suitable Applications” category, you may need to consult an expert to decide if there are ways that can be exploited to enable the move to cloud.
