New NIST Cloud Roadmaps

Learn where to find the new chapters of the NIST roadmap, and see real-world examples of how to use the information found in the documents.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a leading agency in the cloud arena. Its definition and taxonomy of cloud computing are used and explained in the Cloud Essentials curriculum. NIST is continuing its standardization effort of cloud terminology to provide better understanding of the cloud ecosystem. For example, successful interoperability between cloud providers requires standardization of data formats as well as management interfaces.

NIST recently released new drafts of chapters in its roadmap.

The Volume II draft is titled “Useful Information for Cloud Adopters”, and the Volume III draft is titled “Technical Considerations for USG Cloud Computer Deployment Decisions”.  Each volume includes blueprints and explains how to structure decisions around cloud adoption. A brief summary of these documents can be found in this article.

However, the NIST documents are not very clear to cloud novices. This is why the Cloud Credential Council provides the Cloud Essentials curriculum. It serves as an introduction to the field. Equipped with these insights, practitioners will find these NIST documents both understandable and useful.
